Stoked to be a part of this collaboration with 9 Squares! Big thanks to Al Boardman, Skip Dolphin Hursh, and David Stanfield for letting me be a part of the project for round 25. It’s a great concept, combining small square gif animations from 9 different artists internationally. The results are not only beautiful, but can be mesmerizing as well.
The rules were simple and just the right amount to make our animations cohesive while still promoting artistic freedom. Use the colors provided and keep it on the more abstract side, with no characters or typography.

The following was my contribution, as well as last weeks gif, which I was holding off on posting until all 9 went live.
Had a ton of fun playing with different concepts. My son just got his first record player, which ultimately won out amongst the other ideas in my mind… What’s a record player you ask? Hopefully you’re not really asking that, which is exactly why we wanted him to have a record player. There’s something beautifully nostalgic about listening to music on records. More so, as an artist, I can’t tell you the countless album covers I’ve stared at. I remember my fathers wall of record albums and pulling them out before I knew who The Beatles were… Album art was probably some of my first consciously aware exposure to art. Hence the final gif animation for last weeks entry for 9 Squares.
Another concept I’d like to share with you, was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s window designs and lead to the following illustration –
