Well, my buddy Will posted the Sampulator, by @stevespaced on facebook the other day with the question…

As a matter of fact, I was. But I knew I hadn’t done a good blog posting this week and decided to have some fun with the Sampulator. After about 25 minutes of tapping on my keyboard and trying to hit the spacebar to stop the recording before it overwrote the previous notes on the loop, I had “The Motion Bar’s Particular Track,” the name being a work in progress.

I would say one needs a little bit of musical software experience to pick it up quickly, but overall was a breeze and the UI was a pleasure to use as far as making music with an online sample machine. The only frustrating thing at the end of making the beat was the lack of the ability to download the track.

Always looking for unique projects and interesting ways to collaborate, I quickly turned the Sampulator into something productive by using the track I made, to get creative with graphics in After Effects.

Wanted the music to have some ambient pretty graphics for it to drive, so I jumped at the opportunity to play around with Trapcode Particular and Sound Keys, which allowed for some abstract beautiful colors and movement. As usual, trapcode made it a breeze to link the music to the particular plugin. One simply selects the range of the track they want to drive the graphics and then applies that to the individual functions of the plugin by simply pickwhipping them to the Sound Key’s plugin range. Yea, that probably sounded more complicated than it is, but it’s really not. If you’d like more info on exactly how to do this or you want to learn more, contact us below with any questions you might have and we’d be happy to help.
